The Capay Valley runs northwest from Madison up Highway 16 through Esparto, Capay, Brooks, Guinda and Rumsey, following Cache Creek into the hills. It is orchards, row crops and a lot of small and mid-size farms that run older equipment hard and fix it themselves until they cannot. Do you really come all the way up to Guinda and Rumsey?
Yes. The upper valley is about 45 minutes from Woodland, so the mobile trip fee is at the top of the $150 to $235 range, but we batch valley calls on the same day whenever we can and the fee is often split. Cylinders can also ride down with anyone headed to Woodland.
Can you rebuild the hydraulic pump on a 1980s tractor?
Most of them, yes. Gear pumps on older Deere, Ford, Case and Massey tractors rebuild well and land near the low end of $800 to $4,000. If parts are no longer made we will say so and price a replacement instead.
What if I bring the cylinder to Woodland myself?
Then there is no trip fee at all, and the reseal or rebuild price is exactly what the cost page says: $350 to $900 for small bore, $1,000 to $3,000 for large bore. A lot of valley growers drop cylinders on a town run and pick them up on the next one.
Do you do hoses for the shakers and sweepers up here in the fall?
Every fall. The truck carries the high-pressure hose and fittings shakers use, and in season we run the valley as a priority route. A single hose made at the machine is $245 to $750 including the trip.
